What Is On Page SEO In 2018

4 Most Relevant On Page SEO Factors in 2018

Optimization is Necessary for Proper On Page SEO

On Page search engine optimization in 2018 will be based on 4 very specific factors. Lets break it down to the fundamentals.

  1. 1. The value of your website content.
  2. 2. The relevance of your site content in relation to search queries.
  3. 3. The meta data, markup and code in your website.
  4. 4. The website structure and user experience.

Many SEO experts lump these 4 factors into one category called “on page SEO.” Lumping it all together is ok for the convenience of conversation between two experts talking.

But not for the lay person. If you are not well versed in the terminology used in the SEO or internet marketing profession, it can quickly become confusing.

On Page SEO is the process of creating a page or post that is “Optimized” for search engine computers and website visitors with specific goals or outcome in mind.

It is absolutely necessary to provide valuable information to our website visitors and make that information very easy for search engine computers to understand.

*By making our specific business goal and website content easy for search engine computers to understand accurately, the search computers can asses and rank that page/post (The Entire Site) for Key Words or Key Phrases appropriately compared to similar content.

Providing valuable content, easy to navigate website, your website visitors will be much more likely to take the desired action. Whether that is picking up the phone, filling out a form, purchasing your goods or services or enjoying your content and returning to your site for more.

The Value of Website Content

The title of your page serves two important purposes. First it tells your audience what your page is about. The second purpose is to give the search engines key word(s) or key phrases to index your page for evaluation and ranking for serving up your page/post as an answer to a search query.

Structure the content of your page/post to guide your visitors in a natural, logical fashion through the content. By doing so, the actual content will provide a large portion of information to the search engine computers to understand the context of the content and evaluate it comparatively to other sources with similar content.

  1. Provide content that you believe will be valuable to your readers not just search engines!
  2. Break down the subject into sections that will guide your reader and the search engines step by step through your page with descriptive headings.
  3. Use key words and phrases naturally throughout the page. Don’t force them onto the page for the sake of thinking, the more the better.

On the contrary, using key words in an un-natural fashion is a quick way to be over-optimized and get a penalty or get filtered from the search engine results page (SERP). Also, There isn’t a magic word count number that applies to content creation. Use the amount of words needed to create “value” for the visitor or consumer.

Relevance of Website Content in Relation to Search Queries

Google wants to offer the best services to its users, and that includes displaying the most accurate results against their queries. The search engine aims at providing quality information, and answers to search queries.

If you create the best piece of content ever, but no one is searching for it, then most likely it will not be shown to “searchers” because is will not be relevant. Example, If you have a Law Firm business site that caters to serving other Lawyers, use the language in your content that Lawyers would use when searching for your service.

Relevance also extends to the other websites that link to your site. A fishing website linking to a Law Firm site will not help search engines evaluate the “relevance” of the Law Firm’s website content.

Meta data, Markup and Code in Your Website

This is much more important in 2018 than it has ever been. Why. Because in many content management systems (CMS) we have the opportunity to further bring clarity and relevance to the website through the areas behind the visitors eyes but readable to search engines.

One good example of this is the ability to add information to images and graphics on a website to further explain what, why, when and how the image relates to the website and the content and the goal of the website.

For example, a business website that uses images (or video) can imbed the location of that business into the image or video. By doing so, that image or video will point to that businesses website (or map listing) in the search engines results.

Taking that concept a step further. If you sell or make the best widget, and name your image properly. If an image search query is made for that type off widget, your image has a chance to show up in the search results and lead the searcher to your business website.

There are literally dozens of these types of optimizations that can be done in the code of your website to further bring relevance, authority and trust to your website and in turn to your business. Recently, the importance of having an SSL certificate has come into play. The SSL Cert is needed for the entire site not just a page or post.

Website Structure & User Experience

Having an up to date code base and content management system will help your website management team use modern standards and best practices. This will make it easier for them to follow your SEO Teams direction and engineer a website that will produce your company’s intended out come.

It is imperative in 2018 that a business have a “mobile first” AMP compliant website, as well as, a mobile compatible website working together. Google has made it clear that they have moved to a mobile phone first search engine. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) should not be an after thought. “More than half of all web traffic comes from smart phones and tablets”, says Google.

User experience can be summed up easily. Make it easy for your consumers and visitors to understand your content and easily navigate your website on all screens. That includes phone, tablet, laptop and desk top.

How Long Does it Take to Perform On Page SEO?

The time it takes to implement on page search optimization will depend on several conditions.

  1. The size of your website.
  2. The amount of factors that need attention.
  3. The type of website you currently have.
  4. The content management system and code of your site.
  5. The type of content on your site.

A five page local services type website could take a day or 3 weeks depending on the “conditions” of the website. If the images need updating and the text descriptions need a major overhaul or the base code is outdated it will take longer than a website that is in better shape.

An ecommerce site has many more moving parts than a local business website. If the e-com website has 20 pages or 200 pages it will make a big difference in the time of completion.

We have a page that breaks down some of the on page optimization tasks and lists the 15 most common SEO issues that we see happening that applies to most types of websites.

Our On Page Project Based Strategy

We do not use a one size fits all model when we approach a website project that needs on page search engine optimization. Just like there are different types of websites there are dozens of different tactics that can have a potential positive influence on your website.

However, tactics do not equate a strategy. The strategy dictates the tactics.

For communication purposes we use an acronym to explain our optimization practices. How we choose the proper tactics or options that have the highest probability of success is based on this acronym.

The Acronym is DA3F

DEFINE – We need to define exactly what the desired outcome is. Some of that will be dictated by modern web standards and best practices. And, the rest will be defined by the clients needs, goals and budget.

ANALYSE – In this phase we break down exactly what needs to change or be updated and pick what tactics will be a part of the overall strategy.

FIND – We find each and every area that can be optimized.

FIX – Based on analysis and client budget, we fix issues starting with the areas that have the biggest return.

FINISH – This is easy. We execute the necessary tactics based on the over all strategy to achieve the desired outcome.

Having a proven, structured system to operate in gives our clientele an unfair advantage.

First off, a strategy without parameters and structure will not have a very good chance of providing consistent measurable results.

Secondly, our proven structured system offers an easy barometer for clients to measure the return on there investment and gauge there budget appropriately.

https requires an SSL Cert

Does Our Site Need a SSL Cert?

How do I know if Our Website Needs a SSL Cert?

https requires an SSL Cert

https Protocol Requires an SSL Certificate

There has been a lot of talk over the years in the Marketing and SEO community about the advantages of having a SSL Certification for a business website. There have been many unsubstantiated claims that a SSL Cert would help a website’s ranking. In general, that has never been true until now.

Recently, Google said that their Chrome browser would start to warn users that visit a website that doesn’t have a SSL Cert, that the website is “not safe and do not input any personal information on it”.

If you answer yes to any one of these 5 questions then you need an SSL certification for your business or company website. *The Authority and Trust Benefits far out way the temporary inconvenience.

  1. Do we ever intend on accepting money through our site?
  2. Will we ever ask our visitors for any type on personal information ex. email?
  3. Will we ever implement a sign in policy ex. username and password?
  4. Do we want to make our website more secure for our users in general?
  5. Do we want to make our site harder for 3rd party bad guys to manipulate?

If your business website is currently doing or will be doing any of the above 5 items, then your business website needs a SSL Certification. If you plan to accept money in any way through your website, then having an SSL Certification is a must. If for example, you know that your website will only be “blogging” about assorted topics, then a SSL cert is not mandatory.

Even if you are asking your website visitors for a first name and email to sign up for a newsletter, it’s a very good idea to get a SSL Cert now.

Why is a SSL So Important Today?

As of 9-1-2017 Google has made it clear that all non-SSL sites will show a “not secure” notice to your site visitors if you don’t have a SSL Cert. Regardless of what type of website your company is currently using. SSL means Secured Socket Layer. What it does and proves is more important than what it all means.

A trusted SSL Provider and a proper SSL Certificate work together. They create a secure connection between a consumer’s browser and website and an Authentication that your business is “your business” not an imposter bad guy.

Increase the Authority and Trust of Your Brand

Having your site set up with a SSL will boost the Trust and Authority of your website and Brand in 5 very important ways.

  1. The trust and authority of your site will increase. The search engine computers will see your site favorably having a boost in SEO value.
  2. Your visitors will feel more secure on your site. They will not leave because of a “Not Secure” warning.
  3. Your consumers will trust your site more. In turn, your brand will be trusted more.
  4. The more trusted your brand is, the more your consumers will see you as an authority.
  5. The more Authority and Trust your consumers have in your brand, the more they will buy and promote your product or service.

What Does a SSL Do?

The main reason websites use an SSL cert, is because they need to keep personal or sensitive information that is sent across the Internet encrypted. That means the information your visitors see and the information they give (like email sign up, credit card use) is through an encrypted connection between the visitor’s browser and your website.

When your business obtains an SSL certificate, another type of protection called a server certificate is also issued. This certificate acts as a mediator between browsers and SSL servers to show that the SSL certificate provider can be trusted.

That your business website is safe to use. Your business is verified authentic. Your consumers are guarded against impersonators and phishing scams. Your data and customers data is safe!

What Does an SSL Look Like?

https:// protocol served by SSL

Look in your browser address bar. If the website address starts with a https, then that site has a secured connection. If it starts with a http, then the site doesn’t have a secured connection or SSL Cert. Some web browsers give visual cues, such as a lock icon or a green bar, to make sure visitors know when their connection is secured.

This means that they will trust your website more when they see these cues. Visitors will be more likely to buy services or products from you. Or, sign up to a newsletter. SSL providers will also give you a trust seal (if you want one) that may instill more trust in your consumers.

When Should You Get an SSL Certificate?

We strongly believe that you should get your site secured with a SSL Cert as soon as possible. Our experience has shown us repeatedly that most business owners Will NOT move fast in this direction. Unfortunately, for those business owners, they will fall behind.

Behind in consumer trust, authority and SEO rankings. That will show up in their bottom line. The companies and business owners that are proactive will see a boost in their online generated revenue. Maybe not immediately, but as the procrastinators fall further from ranking grace, the action takers will come out ahead.

Action taking business owners will always come out ahead of the pack if the actions go in the proper direction. Getting a SSL Cert. is the proper direction.

Take action  today.

The State of Retail & Millenials in 2018

Retail in 2018 will Erode

We don’t think it takes an AI machine to predict the state of retail for 2018. The signs are obvious if you look around your community. In our area, just south of Detroit, MI, many of the shopping centers look like ghost towns. The Sears shopping center has more than 60% of the stores empty. However, there is a resurgence of new businesses and community growth in Detroit proper. We are grateful for the new growth in Detroit and believe it will continue. But, many of the suburbs are loosing more chain and independent stores than ever.

Retail Erodes in 2018, e-com Skyrockets

Millenials are a big part of this trend but are not to blame at all. Technology is the reason that e-com has proliferated to the level that it has and so many retail businesses are closing. Technology has made the price of entry easier to create and sell on an e-com platform. More importantly, technology and access to non linier education online has provided a path to success for anyone willing to put in the effort.

Our prediction, based on experience and research, leads us to 2018 being a transformational year for online selling. Right now it’s like the wild west online. We are in the beginning stage of the wild west becoming tamed. That is also due to technology and the willingness of people to use it to buy products and services online. The only thing “millennials” have to do with it is that they were born when they were born.

Check out Online Buying Trends

From MSN Money June 16, 2017 – Millennials are buying everything online – except cars

As many industries struggle to adapt to millennials’ preference for buying experiences and shopping online, one group of retailers seems to have been spared, at least so far: car dealerships.

According to a poll from our partner, MSN, 62% of American millennials (aged 18 to 29) plan to buy their next car in-person at a dealership. Overall, 65% of Americans will head to a dealership when it’s time to buy a new car.

MSN polls its readers, and then uses machine learning to model how a representative sample of the U.S. would have responded, using big data, such as the Census. It’s nearly as accurate as a traditional, scientific survey.

Online car dealerships, such as Roadster, Carvana and Vroom, hope to entice car buyers with promises like free delivery and money back guarantees. Even Amazon seems to be toying with the possibility of selling cars through its site. The idea isn’t new. Online classifieds and auction sites like eBay have long made it possible to research and even purchase cars online.

Still, only 26% of millennials plan to shop online at car-specific websites for their next car.

David M Rothschild from Predictwise.com – did the math for MSN and claims there machine learning program is very accurate. 26% of millennials plan to shop online for a car. Only 5 years ago that would of been 5% or less. In another 5 years it will be more than 50%.

From Business Insider April 11, 2017

Corali Lopez- Casrto, a bankruptcy lawyer from Livonia, Michigan, told business Insider after she attended a recent distressed investing conference in Palm Beach Florida, Retailers are running out of cash and the dominoes are starting to fall & 2017 will be the year of retail bankruptcies.

At the same time retailers are dropping, there are more online sales than ever. Mobile phone shopping is up. E-com stores are getting the picture and making their products available on purpose built mobile apps and websites. Black Friday sales in 2016 exceeded those of brick and mortar for the first time ever.

Even 77% of shoppers between the age of 18 and 35 use social media in some way to shop for products. Half of retail shoppers use their smart phone to look at reviews of the product they want to buy while at the store. Are those reviews coming from the store they’re in? No, Amazon.

According to a recent UPS Pulse Of The Online Shopper report. For most purchases, millennials lead the pack in ditching brick-and-mortar stores: More than half of their total purchases in 2016 were made online.

The Reason E-com will Crush Retail in 2018

This is the first generation of digital natives that have grown up with digital tools. They tend to use them as their default option because they grew up with digital devices. Instead of Mom putting them in front of the TV to take a brake from parenting, Mom handed little Billy an iPad. We’re good with that.

If Retailers want to be good, then they need to evaluate their customer base to get to know them and understand the impact this behavior has had on their business. Millennials are getting older. They are making more money. They have children that will take online purchasing even further than Mom and Dad.

The Solution for Retailers

The Retailers business model needs to be based on the actions and behaviors of their customer base. Their business model, merchandising and overall customer experience needs to cater to their buyers. That is not a new formula. What is new, the mediums that retailers need to get better at using to reach their consumers.

Their advertising budget doesn’t need to be bigger, a portion of it needs to be reallocated to include a digital strategy. Digital asset building will need to be a first thought strategy instead of “a thing we should have.”

A purpose built website for e-commerce and one or two social media channels that best suit the retailer will be the new normal. Retail shops will need a digital strategy optimized for search engines that works in step with the retail store location. The retailers that are already on board with an optimized digital strategy going into 2018 are setting their business up for success. They’re Black Friday sales will enjoy both online and in store record breaking numbers in 2018.

What is RankBrain?

Google’s RankBrain & Other Search Updates

Google RankBrain Graphic

Google RankBrain, Part of the Overall Algorithm

Google is using a machine learning technology called RankBrain to help deliver it’s search results. Here’s a brief summary and history of other Google Search algorithm updates.

Google is using a machine-learning artificial intelligence system called “RankBrain” to help sort through it’s search results. Wondering how that works and fits in with Google’s overall ranking system? This is what we know about RankBran today.

search engine have many factors

Influence Google Search

RankBrain is Google’s AI search development – affecting 15% of searches using artificial intelligence to interpret search quires to serve the best results for users. Most algorithm changes affect around 1 to 4% of all searches internationally on first iterations. So 15% of international searches being affected by AI is sure to have an impact on what the face of search optimization looks like!

Not to long ago the internet power house Google, has rebranded itself as a subsidiary of Alphabet. The newly formed Multinational Tech Conglomerate openly announced a wealth of subsidiary companies that are changing the world. Really!

RankBrain is Google’s name for a Machine-Learning artificial intelligence system that is used to help understand and process Search Requests.

What is Machine Learning?

Machine learning is where a computer teaches itself how to do something rather than being taught by humans or following detailed programming input from a programmer or a group of programmers and technicians.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

mechanical brain

Machine Learning Brain

True artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is where a computer can be as smart as a human being. At least in the sense of acquiring knowledge. Both from being taught and from building on what it already has learned. Building new connections or vectors from new information and existing knowledge.

True AI only exists in science fiction movies or books. In practice, AI is used to refer to computer systems that are designed to learn from it’s interactions with people and other computers.

How is AI different from machine learning?

In terms of RankBrain, it seems that they’re fairly synonymous. You may hear them both used interchangeably. You may hear machine learning used to describe the type of artificial intelligence approach that is being implemented.

Is RankBrain the New Way Google Ranks Search Results?

No, RankBrain is part of Google’s overall “search algorithm”, a computer program that’s used to sort through the Trillions of pages it knows about and find the ones deemed most relevant for particular queries people type into the search bar on the Google Chrome browser. RankBrain seems to be the part of the algorithm that has the job of interpreting a search query that is not easily understandable. A search that is using slang (colloquialisms) or un-popular wording.

What is the Name of Google’s Search Algorithm?

google hummingbird

Google Hummingbird Algorithm

Hummingbird is the name of Google’s search algorithm. For years the overall algorithm didn’t have a formal name. But in the middle of 2013, Google overhauled it’s algorithm and gave it the name Hummingbird.
Exactly why the name Hummingbird was chosen or how it was chosen is only something that we could speculate on. Any way, that isn’t really what is important. Knowing how it works is.

Is RankBrain part of the Google Hummingbird search?

Yes, Hummingbird is the overall search algorithm. Just like a car has an overall engine in it. The engine itself is made up of various parts. It has a fuel system, a cooling system and exhaust system. Gas goes in and energy comes out. In the same way, Hummingbird encompasses various parts. RankBrain being one of the newest part of the overall Hummingbird algorithm. RankBrain doesn’t handle all searches because, only the overall algorithm can. A search goes in, it gets interpreted and then an answerer is selected that the overall algorithm deems to be the best answer for that search at that time and place.

Panda, Penguin, PageRank

Hummingbird also contains other parts with names familiar to those in the SEO space, such as Panda, Penguin and Payday designed to fight spam. Pigeon was designed to improve local search results. Top Heavy was designed to demote ad-heavy pages. Mobile Friendly was  designed to reward mobile-friendly pages and Pirate is designed to fight copyright infringement.

What’s the Google Algorithm called, PageRank?

PageRank is part of the overall Hummingbird algorithm that covers a specific way of giving pages credit based on the links from other pages pointing to them. PageRank is special because it’s the first name that Google gave to one of the parts of it’s search engine ranking algorithm in 1998 when it began.

What are the Signals that Google uses for Ranking?

100’s of Signals for Page Ranking

Signals are used to help determine ‘how to rank web pages.’ For example, it can read the words on a web page, so words are a signal. If some words are in bold, that might be another signal noted. The calculations used as part of PageRank give a page a PageRank score that’s used as a signal. If a page is mobile-friendly or loads fast (or slow), is another signal that is registered by Google’s overall algorithm.

All of these signals get processed by various parts within the Hummingbird algorithm to ultimately figure out which pages Google shows in response to various searches conducted for services, products or information.

How Manny Signals are There?

3rd Most Important Signal

Google has fairly consistently spoken of having more than 200 major ranking signals that are evaluated, that, in turn might have up to 10,000 variations or sub-signals. They typically just say “hundreds” of factors. Some of these factors will have “more weight” or be more relevant to different types of websites and content on the web pages. Of course, the actual search terms have an affect too.

For example, a local service company that doesn’t have a website that is easily seen on a mobile device will be in major trouble maintaining any type of rankings in 2018. Google’s “Mobile First” initiative and an all “Mobile Search Engine” will go into effect mid 2018. That is sure to catch many folks off guard.

Is RankBrain an Important Signal?

RankBrain was said to be the third most important factor for ranking web pages by Google. We have a tendency to think of our website as one thing. But, in reality Google and other search engines see our website as pages. Many of the algorithm “signals” that we are discussing are applied on a page by page basis.

From Mr. Paul Corrado’s interview from Bloomberg,

“RankBrain is one of the “hundreds” of signals that go into an algorithm that determines what results appear on a Google search page and where they are ranked. In a few months it has been deployed, RankBrain has become the 3rd most important signal contributing to the search query.”

At Google, Corrado has worked for some time on brain inspired computing, and has served as one of the founding members and the co-technical lead of Google’s large scale deep neural networks project.

Is RankBrain Really Helping?

If RankBrain really is such a integral part of Google’s search algorithm process that it’s reported to be the 3rd most important signal, then it must be helping. It’s not something that Google would do unless, they really believed it was helping search users and improving the accuracy of the search results. After all, Google is the best search engine out there and most likely will continue to push the boundaries of technology and innovation.

As you probably can tell, there is quit a bit of information and data that Google uses to deliver the Search Results that they do. One constant that can be counted on is Google continuing to be the search market leader in the industry.
Another constant is the search algorithm changing and being updated. Ever changing the landscape of search engine optimization.

Search Rank More Important with Mobile Ad Blocking

SEO is More Valuable Than Ever

A report I read in Consumers Guide has stated that mobile advertisers are having trouble with ad blockers. With so many people using them, new ad methods are being sought.  Most people feel that they are being interrupted when they are searching on their phone and ads pop up and stop their flow. Some folks are complaining that ads are even causing their phones to crash.

Baffman seo more important than ever do to mobile phone ad blocking

Mobile Phone Ad-blocking On the Rise

Reading is my preferred way to get up to speed with the news. If I have time I will watch a video but almost never live TV.  Commercials and advertisements are why. The TV show I watch gets recorded to our DVR. That way I can fast forward through the ads. That cuts down a 1 hour show to 38 minuets or so.  Below is an exert from the Consumers Guide website post about mobile ad blocking and how many people use it.

Mobile Ad Blocking by the No’s

According to a new report, 419 million people (22% of the world’s smartphone users) are now using mobile ad-blocking technology.

PageFair’s ( pagefair.com) numbers also indicate that 408 million people are using mobile browsers that block ads by default.

Smartphone users in China account for 159 million instances of mobile ad-blocking, while India is home to 122 million people using browsers that block ads.

Mobile ad-blocking isn’t as quite as prevalent in Europe and here in North America, where there were 14 million monthly active users of mobile ad-blocking browsers as of March 2016.

Mobil Advertiser Troubles Can Help SEO

Nancy Hill, CEO of 4A’s, says these numbers validate a long-standing concern in the digital media industry. The report also highlights a need for advertisers to rethink their marketing strategies.

“Consumers are pushing back on mobile and online ads,” said Hill in a statement. “Now is the time for advertising professionals and marketers to take a hard look at ourselves to understand why consumers are not responding to these types of ads, and figure out how we can correct the issue to better engage with the consumers we’re trying to reach.”

Search Engine Optimization Value Up

Optimizing your website for search is more important than ever. The trend to block ads will only continue to become the norm as consumers continue to block or click away from advertisement disruptions. The first page of the search results will become even more important. If ads are reduced, there will be more screen real-estate for organic results. Possibly opening up a few more slots. Showing up above the fold will be necessary.

As an expert in SEO, we understand “consumer intent.” When a potential customer is searching for a product, watching a music video on You Tube or reading a magazine, they don’t want to see a commercial about life insurance or an entrepreneur selling something from his back yard. We know that and it appears, advertisers know it too.

Consumer intent is what search engines have been trying to master since day one.  Google is the leading search engine provider and they are really good at serving up the best answers to consumer inquiries. That is why we concentrate on their search engine. Our Google search optimization strategy works for on the other engines like Bing and Yahoo.

Optimizing for Intent

Because we understand user intent, we optimize your website for search using key words and key word phrases that will help the search engines serve up your website when your potential client “intends to” visit a website that has your product or service on it. If your digital assets are in our care, your company website will have the highest probability of being one of the top results on page one.

The first step to get above the fold is to head over to our Discovery Page. Answer the questions. IF you would rather call us in lue of, sending it through email, please write the answers down in a note pad.  Without at least that base information to start the conversation, we will not be able to offer you a complete analysis of your digital properties.  We only offer solutions that will solve your problems. So be prepared to share so we can both determine if we are a good fit for each other.

We are looking forward to hearing from you.

Human Interaction to Each Other and the Webb

The more Google knows about human interaction with each other and the internet, the more “insight” Google has into the mind of it’s users. After all, Google’s mission has been to help people find what they want in a fast, accurate fashion. Eventually Google will know what you want before you know. Allo will help them even more with mobile based search queries. Learn more about our SEO here.

Allo comes with a Personal Assistant

In Google Allo you will also be introduced to a preview edition of the Google Assistant. With your Assistant in Allo, you can have a conversation with Google. Ask it questions and let it help you get things done directly in your chats. • Have some fun. Ask your Assistant to share that funny YouTube video or play games with friends right in your group chat — for instance you can compete to guess a movie title based on a series of emojis.

The Google Assistant is the next chapter in the journey Google has been on for many years to assist people in their everyday lives. They are starting with a preview edition to show you just one way that your Assistant will work for you in chat.

Over the coming months, your Assistant will be available in more Google products, working seamlessly throughout your day at home or on the go. The Assistant will initially be available in English, with more languages coming soon.

Incognito Mode has Extra Security

“All chats in Google Allo are encrypted using industry standard technologies like Transport Layer Security (TLS). But we went a step beyond this and we created a mode within Google Allo called Incognito (h/t Chrome). When you chat in Incognito mode, messages have end-to-end encryption and additional privacy features like discreet notifications and message expiration”, says Google.

Way to go Google

With more competition in the virtual assistant market, Google is stepping it up with an integrated system that will compete with the likes of Echo, Siri and Cortona. If Allo works as good as Google Search, the competition will be minimum.

Waze App San Francisco from Google

Going My Waze

Google is using it’s Waze app to link up riders with drivers who are headed the same way. In the San Francisco area users are able to use the app to get a ride with a driver that is going the same way they want to go. It is more of a car pooling thing than a taxi type app.

Waze App in San-Francisco

Until now the test was restricted to the employees of pre selected companies in the San Francisco area. But, reports confirm that starting this month the service will be open to everyone in the Bay Area.

The main difference between Waze and apps like Uber and lyft is in the “ride share” model. Uber is more like a taxi service and so is Lyft.

Waze is basically just trying to fill empty seats on vehicles that are already going to a destination. Google has priced the Waze ride at 54 cents a mile at this time.

Waze App is not new

Waze is already well-established as the commuter’s friend. It basically helps drivers avoid traffic back-ups and find alternative routes, using input from other users. Drivers like it, but some neighborhoods are experiencing increased cut-through traffic on residential streets.
The Waze experiment is unique to the U.S. The model has been in use in Israel for the last year or so. Waze was developed in Israel and purchased by Google in 2013.

In another departure from the Uber/Lyft model, Google will reportedly not be vetting its drivers, relying instead on reviews from consumers to weed out bad folks. Anyone with the Waze app can sign up to be a driver.

Search for a Ride with Waze

So much of the traffic data that is available in the Waze app is user generated. Meaning, that many of the users update the traffic conditions as they travel. That is the appeal. Because honestly, who likes to get caught in a traffic jam. The more user information that Google can collect the better they will be able to serve the users of the app.

Search engines work on the same principle. It is the feed back of users and user interaction the fuels the engine. I have no predictions at this time but, the more Google can get out of a map application the more influence they will have over the same users that are helping Google accumulate such mass amounts of data. For now lets just say the Waze app has the possibility of helping our planet and helping folks get around town. Oh, and the driver gets a little gas money.

The Nexus smart phone shown front and back with Android software on it

Google Phone Is Coming

Ba-By Nexus – Google Phone Is Coming

Mobile search is changing yet again. The Nexus name has been part of Google’s branding for 7 years. The flagship smart phone will go the way of the Dinosaur and be replaced with a Google branded Android 7.0 Nougat smartphones.

What does that mean to your Company?

From the news report that came out, Google will ax the Nexus name starting with this year’s Marlin and Sailfish Android 7.0 Nougat phones. They will not display the Nexus name on the smartphones. They will not be giving any credit to HTC. The company that is actually designing and producing this years crop of phones for Google.

A smartphone controlled by Google will change local search even more.

Why should your Business care?

Well from a search engine stand point, this very important. Specially concerning mobile search. Google CEO ,Sundar Pichai said earlier this year that the company would “invest more effort” to be “more opinionated about the design of it’s phones”

Google already controls and estimated 86% of the Mobile Search Market. If they get millions of smartphones into the hands of the consumer that is “customized” with Google applications, their strong hold over mobile search will be concrete and most likely impenetrable.

Pichai hinted back in June that the company would “thoughtfully” add more features on top of the Android platform and that “there is a lot of software innovation to be had.”

The bottom line to mobile search

In one word, control. In 2 words, mobile first. That is the fast moving direction that Google has headed since June this year. Soon there will be large smartphones with Google branding on the back. Google software inside. A Google assistant telling us what to watch, where to go and so much more importantly to local companies, what to buy and from whom. Local Retail Must Learn From Amazon Prime Day

Local Retail – Learn From Amazon

Local Retail Learn from Amazon and Succeed

Brick and Mortar local retailers need to pay attention to the motives behind Prime Day and take note of the giant shift in consumer shopping. We love Amazon and our clients that entrust us with their Amazon rankings. But, we are on a mission to help local businesses get ahead and build a solid customer base.

Amazon’s Prime Day was bigger than last year and set a record for orders worldwide, says Amazon.com about Tuesdays second annual Prime Day event.

My Trusted Source

The following two paragraphs are from Consumers Report and Mark Huffman both of whom I regard very highly for their economic insights and their impartial reporting.

The online retailer says global orders were 60% higher than last year while U.S. orders rose 50%. Amazon says it also set a record for orders for Amazon devices, including Fire TV, Fire tablets, Kindle e-readers and Alexa-enabled devices. The company did not release any sales or revenue figures, as of yet.

Amazon launched the promotion for the first time in 2015, picking a day in July to serve as sort of a precursor to Black Friday. The purpose is to capture consumer holiday shopping dollars before they are spent anywhere else.  It also serves to promote Amazon and also serves to promote Prime, since shoppers had to be members to take advantage of the deals.

Take cautious note of the above bold text.  This is the 2nd year Amazon has set out to “capture consumer holiday shopping dollars before they are spent anywhere else.” I interpret that as, “before consumers spend their money at a local business”.

It is our mission to interrupt that plan. Not because we don’t like Amazon (they’re great at making products easy to buy) but by helping our local businesses and companies gain a big enough share of the market to thrive and grow. Not just my local people, but all of the local companies!

Shoes Toys Devices oh my

The company said it sold over two and a half times more Amazon Fire TV devices Tuesday than it did on last year’s Prime Day. Amazon said the Fire TV Stick was the best-selling Amazon device.

They said Prime customers bought more than two million toys and more than a million pairs of shoes. It took orders for 90,000 TV sets and hundreds of thousands of e-readers.

In the U.S., it was also the biggest single day for sales of Amazon Echo, the retailer’s voice-controlled audio system.

Amazon Proves SEO Is Vital

SEO and Website Optimization Can Save Brick and Mortar Stores

Just because a company is big doesn’t exempt them from proper SEO strategies and a proper Website Optimization blue print. Amazon has proven that “giant companies”

and the many very “small companies” under their virtual roof have succeeded because they have more reach and influence in the eyes search engines.

As news of more brick and mortar retail stores closing down or selling off chunks of their business comes down the pike, I cringe deeply. I have a moment of anger knowing that “only if” we could have counseled these companies the thousands of families affected with loss of income, insurance and stability would not be happening.

Success is Planed and Earned

I have been fortunate enough to meet several very nice business owners that have become millionaires from selling their products on Amazon. The two biggest contributors to their success have been the willingness to put their company first and their decision to invest in a website strategy and search engine optimization strategy at an early stage in their business.

Brick & Mortar Stores Need a Digital Strategy

We can help you build your business up. We bring a proven strategy and the necessary resources to the table. If you haven’t taken advantage of a dedicated SEO consultant then now is the time. You can choose what part of the story you want your company to become apart of. Closed or open and thriving.

Exert from msn money

Amazon’s dominance, bolstered by mostly lower prices, more options and increased convenience for shoppers, has caused stores across the mall to take a hit.

Teen-apparel retailer Aéropostale filed for bankruptcy in May. Later that month, JC Penney announced that it would cut payroll and freeze overtime for its employees.

The bad news isn’t only recent: In 2015, Penney announced it would close 40 locations, while fellow mall giant Sears has closed more than 200 locations over the past two years.

Meanwhile, in its most recent earnings report, Amazon posted profits for the fourth consecutive quarter. The price of shares of Amazon stock has spiked by about 30% since February. On the heels of April’s stellar earnings, the fortune of its CEO and founder, Jeff Bezos, has soared by $6 billion in just a few hours. The company’s first-ever Amazon Prime Day proved to be a bigger sales event than Black Friday last summer, and Amazon is planning a repeat with tens of thousands of sales slated for July 12.

The struggling retail market led at least one analyst, Jan Kniffen, to predict that about a third of America’s malls will shut their doors in the coming years.

Still, some physical store closings are not a sign of troubled times, but rather the sacrifices necessary to achieve greater profitability by funneling more money to “on line” money getting resources and tactics.
